This board also comes with Gigabyte's Ultra Durable 3 design, that uses 2-oz of copper PCB, a Ultra Durable heatpipe to cool the chipset and MOSFETs, dual BIOS, all solid Japanese capacitors and a 4+1 Phase Unit. All of these features have really help Gigabyte stand out as one of the top motherboard manufactures and when the GA-890GPA-UD3H motherboard was the first out of many to overclock my AMD 955BE to 3.9GHz, I was more than sold on the design!
Both the Gigabyte 890GPA-UD3H and ASUS M4A89GTD Pro/USB3 AMD 890GX-based motherboards that we looked at here today are both very solid motherboards and increase the level of performance that you can expect from an AMD motherboard. The faster and improved Radeon HD 4290 integrated graphics are more than enough to power your HTPC for Blu-ray playback and can even manage to do some light gaming on lower resolution.
An AM3 socket with a 4+1 phase power design takes up a chunk of board space and supports - you guessed it - all existing AM3 CPUs, as well as upcoming hexa-core AMD Phenom II X6 processors, codenamed Thuban and expected to arrive sometime in April. Memory, meanwhile, is catered for by a set of dual-channel slots supporting DDR3 at speeds of up to 1,866MHz.
Check out the new Gigabyte 890GPA-UD3H Motherboard. This is Gigabytes first board to include AMDs new 8-series chipset, the 890GX. Check out what's the future holds inside! The new Phenom II X6, Thuban will also be supported by the 890GPA-UD3H.
Today we take a look at one of the top motherboard manufacturers and their flavor of 890GX motherboard. This is the GA-890GPA-UD3H; it features what GIGABYTE likes to call their 333 onboard acceleration. This is the combination of SATA 3.0, USB 3.0 and Power 3X. GIGABYTE rolls this and much more up into a package that costs a shave under $140 at Newegg.com.
Today we will take a look at two motherboards manufactured by Gigabyte. First is GA-MA890GPA-UD3H which is based on new 890GX chipset and the other one is GA-MA790X-UD3P which is based on the old highend chipset 790X. We will compare these motherboards against each other and see if the new chipset performs better than the old flagship.
However despite this, Gigabyte looks to have nailed it with the 890GPA-UD3H, by offering a perfect balance of features and value. In fact, if you compare the Gigabyte 890GPA-UD3H to the Asus M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 motherboard, there appears to be very little difference between them, and despite this the Asus board comes at a $20 US price premium.
The AMD 890GX chipset, the first in the 800 series, with that G in GX for IGP, Integrated Graphics Product. A motherboard chipset that is based of the recently introduced AMD 785 chipset, it has been revised though and is now paired with the all new AMD SB850 Southbridge chip.
GA-890GPA-UD3H is a decent motherboard, but, frankly speaking, Gigabyte has somewhat spoilt us by previous bestsellers based on AMD integrated chipsets. Anyway, the motherboard will surely be in demand. At least because of its excellent overclocking potential and the convenient layout of graphics slots.
To give you an idea of the HD4290 performance we also ran the X3: Terran Conflict-game test with the integrated graphics. As a benchmark here we used the HD 5450 graphics card, which is the slowest card in Ati's current 5-range of cards. Even compared to this the integrated HD4290 just doesn't cut it.
