The motherboard that we are reviewing today is the ASUS M4A78T-E, which is based on the AMD 790GX/SB750 chipset combo. This enthusiast-oriented chipset has an Ace-in-the-Hole in the form of a very capable integrated graphics processor (IGP), the Radeon HD 3300.

Asus has dropped a bit of a clanger with the model code for the M4A78T-E. The name suggests a fourth generation Socket AM3 AMD Phenom II motherboard with an AMD 780 chipset. In fact the chipset is an AMD 790GX so we would expect this model to be called the M4A79G-E or something. It would be rude to call this model code an error but it is certainly confusing and it means that the M4A78T-E is very similar to the Asus M4A79T Deluxe that we have previously reviewed.

No matter if you're in the DDR2 or DDR3 camp AMD, has you covered with AM2+ and AM3 CPU's on one of the most flexible platforms we've ever seen. If you want to use the Asus M4A78T-E you'll have to use DDR3, and we can easily recommend the AM3+ platform for it's longevity. New products will be coming out for the AM3 platform. AM2+ got a reprieve but soon it'll be getting stale. So, sit back and relax and leave the testing to Bjorn3D.
