The MSI B450 Tomahawk is actually a very impressive motherboard for a motherboard that comes in just under $100. It has a very color neutral aesthetic, which adds a lot of value in this price segment. The large VRM heat sink seems to be quite effective of trying to lower the VRM temperature while covering up part of the rear IO panel.

That means motherboards like this MSI B450 Tomahawk can offer an attractive suite of connectivity and features, including overclocking capability, for a surprisingly modest price point. Intel’s second tier chipsets for LGA1151v2, like H370 and B360, just can’t compete.

MSI MEG X399 Creation

MSI released a new motherboard for Threadripper processors which we review today, and yes that would be the MEG X399 Creation. The board is stylish, loaded with features has subtle LED effects, terrific WIFI and obviously offers everything you need from quadruple x16 PCI-Express slots, multiple M2 SSD options, quad-channel memory and some beefy VRM.

Speaking of cooling, keeping all these phases happy under heavy load are some of the beefiest heatsinks we’ve seen, with the pair surrounding the CPU socket connected via a heatpipe. They weigh plenty and are securely screwed in, but we actually prefer the stacked-fin cooling employed by, say, Gigabyte because it increases usable surface area over the flat, single-block heatsinks here.

MSI B450M MORTAR

There aren’t too many options when it comes to smaller form factors and AMD boards at the moment, and they’ve been especially slow to trickle out for the newer X470 and B450 chipsets. Thankfully, MSI has added to its micro-ATX Mortar range with the board we’re looking at today, and this particular board, the MSI B450M Mortar, costs under £90 too.

We don’t think you’d be too disappointed aesthetically for splashing out, and there’s plenty of RGB lighting to go around too, illuminating the I/O shroud, chipset heatsink, and underside of the PCB in addition to three-pin addressable and four-pin 5050 RGB LED headers on the PCB.
