ASRock Z690 Extreme – Cowcotland

Today, it is the Z690 Extreme motherboard that we are testing. A motherboard for running Intel Alder Lake (12th Gen) processors, based on the high-end Z690 chipset. Designed to work with DDR4 memory, rather than DDR5, it is nonetheless equipped with all the features that these new processors bring. PCI Gen 5 among others. The ASRock Z690 Extreme is priced at 289 euros at the time of writing. Or at a price that positions it between the Gigabyte Z690 Aero G and the MSI Z690 Tomahawk WIFI. Suffice to say that the competition is fierce.

ASUS PRIME H610M-D D4 – Overclockers Russia

Maybe it is at such a time that budget models look the most relevant because you have to buy some devices to replace the old ones. Something can be repaired, but there are really difficult situations where repairs become unprofitable. However, on the other hand, the new Intel platform still needs a processor… Nevertheless, I continue to study budget models of ASUS motherboards, and today ASUS Prime H610M-D D4 is next in line.

ASRock Z690 AQUA – PC Gamer

Now we get to the motherboard itself, and what a beauty. All that metal looks space age, and it’s not just on the front, the rear is covered by a full backplate, too. The board includes three M.2 slots, all of which support PCIe 4.0 x4. One of them is positioned to the right of the memory slots. That’s an area we like to see M.2 slots as its located well away from a heat-dumping GPU.

ASUS PRIME H610M-K D4 – Overclockers Russia

In this generation of motherboards, the very design of the packaging has changed. There is no longer a dark gloomy background, but a calm gray color. This shows the board itself. The image occupies the entire left half, and on the right is the manufacturer’s logo and model name. Everything is in large white characters, and along the bottom edge there is, perhaps, a record number of different icons

MSI MAG Z690 TORPEDO EK X – Overclockers Russia

I have already reviewed several models from different manufacturers and they were mainly focused on the highest segment, and today we tested a mid-range modification based on the flagship chipset, and if we look at the product line, it turns out that it is generally entry-level. Surprised? Meanwhile, everything is exactly the same, and the board is called MSI MAG Z690 Torpedo EK X.

MSI MEG X570 GODLIKE – PCWorld

The X570 Godlike does have a chipset fan behind a grill, which can be RPM controlled. It’s positioned lower on the motherboard, so thick graphics cards are less likely to obstruct the airflow. Below it you’ll also find physical buttons for reset and power, which look great and are highly functional design elements.

ASUS PRIME H610M-A WIFI D4 – Overclockers Russia

In fact, I expected it to be worse, but it turned out to be not so bad and in general the functionality is acceptable. Why did I choose ASUS? Oddly enough, there was no choice. First of all, almost the entire range of motherboards from this company based on the Intel H610 chipset appeared on the market. And the most affordable offer was ASUS Prime H610M-K D4. I was lucky to find a board a little more expensive, but really a step up.
