It uses a meaty cooling solution that features multiple fin stacks which are ventilated by a trio of ASUS’s new-generation Axial-Tech fans. There’s lavish use of metal on both the cooler shroud and the backplate. The cooler is longer than the PCB underneath.

We’ll be testing at 1080p, 1440 and 4K at both medium and ultra presets. We said in the RTX 3080 review that it’s a card primarily designed for 4K gaming, and that it starts to hit CPU bottlenecks at 1440p. That applies even more at 1080p with medium settings.

The most notable change from a user point of view is that instead of the strange 12 pin power input the Founders Edition had, the MSI Gaming X Trio has a more familiar power input setup, with three 8 pin PCIe connectors on the right hand side rather than in the middle.
