Intel Launches Iris Xe MAX Discrete Graphics

Today, Intel launched Intel® Iris® Xe MAX graphics, designed for thin-and-light laptops and now available from partners. Intel Iris Xe MAX graphics is based on the same Xe-LP microarchitecture used for Intel Iris Xe graphics in 11th Gen Intel® Core™ mobile processors. It is Intel’s first Xe-based discrete graphics processing unit (GPU) as part of the company’s strategy to enter the discrete graphics market. Intel Iris Xe MAX platforms feature Intel® Deep Link technology as part of Intel® Adaptix™, support PCIe Gen 4 and address an emerging need for content creation performance in thin-and-light laptops.

“We set out to redefine the role of discrete graphics in thin-and-light laptops and address a growing segment of creators who want more portability. Iris Xe MAX graphics and Intel® Deep Link technology serve as examples of the kind of platform-level innovation that Intel plans to bring to market in the future as we execute to our scalable Xe roadmap.”
– Roger Chandler, vice president and general manager of Client XPU Product and Solutions in the Intel Architecture, Graphics and Software Group

GIGABYTE Z490I AORUS ULTRA

The Z490I Ultra is an overall fantastic board with no major issues to speak of. I would like to see some refinements in UEFI to add secure erase functionality, removing the need for specialized software in Windows. Additionally, EasyTune will need some work as I could not load it despite several attempts to reinstall, etc. That said, for those wanting a software solution for tuning, XTU is freely available from Intel.

Dot Esports – Best Z490 Motherboards of 2020

Intel’s 10th generation processors are the latest to hit the market and offer superior speed and processing power compared to older iterations. They’re also the best gaming processors but need a Z490 motherboard that supports Socket LGA 1200 to work.

The new socket design features 49 more pins than the previous LGA 1151 and can support 10 cores. They also support modern technology like VP9 10-bit encoding, HDR, and HEVC.

Upcoming Intel Chips Allow Overclocking on Budget Motherboards

Intel will begin supporting overclocking on mid-range motherboards with Rocket Lake, the company has confirmed to us today. Previously limited to enthusiast motherboards with a high-end chipset, such as the existing Z490 chipset for 10th Gen Comet Lake chips, now it seems Intel is keen to bring overclocking to more affordable options.

With previous generations of Intel chips, at least as far back as it’s worth discussing, only high-end motherboards with the top chipsets supported overclocking, and with only with K-series processors. You’ll still need a K-series processor even with Rocket Lake, we’re told, but you’ll soon be able to overclock on more affordable mid-range motherboards.

Undervolting NVIDIA’s RTX 3080 / RTX 3090

I think most of us are pretty familiar with the concept of overclocking. This is something that has been done to both CPU’s and GPU’s for many years. Usually you just increase the clockspeed, sometimes with an extra increase in voltage and presto! Increased performance. Or that is how it used to be. For a few generations of GPU’s now the GPU’s have no longer been running with a set clockspeed instead boosting to a higher clockspeed that is partly determined by power target limit and temperatures. So while the Gigabyte RTX 3080 Eagle OC have a 1755 MHz Boost clock it actually often boosts even higher (I’ve seen up to 1900 MHz).
