MSI MEG Z490 ACE

The MSI MEG Z490 Ace brings a slew of modern connectivity, including USB 3.2 Gen2 (20 Gbps), Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX201, robust high-quality power delivery, and good (though not the best) performance. It’s a viable option in the $400 range, though other boards we looked at sport similar features at slightly lower prices.

GIGABYTE B550I AORUS PRO AX

With fewer slots than we’ve seen on the ATX versions of the B550 chipset the Aorus Pro AX ITX actually ends up being, on average, more PCI Express 4.0 than the rest. The sole PCI Express slot is the 64Gb/s PCIe 4.0, whilst there is one PCIe 4.0 and one PCIe 3.0 M.2 slots for your storage needs.

BIOSTAR Racing Z490GTN

With the new Z490 chipset, Biostar has gone for a more mid-range design in the Z490GTN. This $200 model is in the price bracket often seen as hyper-competitive. At that price, it’s perhaps too-high for a basic system (wait for the B-series chipset version), which means that Biostar has to make an effort to provide enough mid-range features to make the motherboard worthwhile.

MSI MEG Z490 ACE

The VRMs delivered all the power we needed for rock solid performance and that meant we were able to focus on the CPU and those ten cores of 4.9GHz goodness. We also used the BIOS to overclock the CPU to hit 5.2GHz, however there were plenty of features we ignored and we didn’t get too hung up on the £400 price, or at least, not until now.

In this review, we look at the MSI Z490 UNIFY. The new series targeted in a high-end solution. Interesting to see that this is an RGB-less all-black design. Priced at 299 USD, it comes with AX WIFI and has that a 2.5 Gbps Ethernet jack and a 16-phase power design.
