The third iteration of the X299 Taichi which is purely designed for Cascade Lake-X processors is so awesome that it makes you forget the last 2 outings. The motherboard features a black and silver color design with a massive overhaul to the heatsinks and VRMs. The motherboard features Intel’s LGA 2066 socket which supports 7th, 9th and 10th Gen X-series processors.

Keen observers will note that the primary reason that the other ASRock board we tested (the TRX40 Taichi) was designed with its top slot in the second location was that its voltage regulator encroached upon DIMM placement, and that ASRock had to basically halve the TRX40 Creator’s voltage regulator to fit it between those banks of DRAM.

The Supermicro X11SPM-TPF is a platform we have wanted to review since it originally came out. This is a mATX Intel Xeon Scalable motherboard which means it has relatively diminutive dimensions. Additionally, it utilizes the onboard Intel LAN function to provide dual SFP+ networking along with expansion capabilities in that compact package.

Don’t be misled into thinking the Master is some stripped down bare bones number though. It’s extremely high end, just relative to the ultimate premium nature of the Xtreme it seems to have less to offer. Compared to anything currently available though it’s still a blinder, so let’s give you a run through before our full review on launch day.

Whilst the Prime-Pro might not have the elements so familiar to us from the ASUS ROG range, it’s not without a large selection of features designed to give you the best possible user experience. Rather than lay out its slots to support four double-slot graphics cards, ASRock treats that second x16-length slot as a storage option. The highest possible slot space is instead occupied by an M.2 slot and covered with an aluminum shroud, as is the blank-looking space between the first and second PCIe slot.

It is not often at STH that we test a specific revision of a motherboard. Our Supermicro H11SSL-NC Rev 2 is one of those rare occasions. The “Rev 2” indicates that it is an updated platform capable of taking the AMD EPYC 7002 Series “Rome” processors. All of the H11SSL-NC motherboards being produced today should say Rev 2.00 as our review unit does.
