ASUS ROG ZENITH EXTREME ALPHA

As a refresh to their HEDT product lineup, the ASUS ROG Zenith Extreme Alpha became ASUS’s flagship X399 series motherboard. The motherboard has a lot in common with ASUS’s ROG Zenith Extreme, the most high-end X399 motherboard for the Ryzen Threadripper lineup at the time of launch but the Alpha takes the design methodology of the original a notch ahead.

MSI H310M GAMING PLUS

The H310M Gaming Plus supports the latest 8th and 9th gen Intel Core, Pentium Gold, and Celeron processors with DDR4 memory support up to 32GB with speeds up to 2666 MHz (the speed limitation here is baked into the chipset). The Micro-ATX board includes a single M.2 slot and the full chipset complement of four SATA ports, along with an Intel-based Gigabit NIC rounding out some of the basic features.

ASRock Z390 Steel Legend

In this review, we peek at a more mainstream Z390 motherboard from ASRock, meet the Z390 Steel Legend. Ready for 8th or 9th Gen processors this board is about performance, aesthetics, and features. The board looks great, a PCH cover. and black and grey style with some gear imagery really looks nice.

The Steel Legend series is similar to what ASUS is doing with TUF. ASRock has opted for extensive cooling of the motherboard with associated controllable LED lighting. The top pcie x16 slot is additionally protected with a steel bar. The motherboard comes with more expensive Nichicon 12K Black capacitors that in theory should last longer.

MSI X470 GAMING PRO

The MSI X470 GAMING Pro is part of MSI’s performance gaming line which is underneath “Enthusiast” and above its “Arsenal” gaming line. Like I said, this doesn’t really make much sense without looking into the hierarchy of MSI’s product stack via its website.

GIGABYTE X570 AORUS MASTER

For starters you get a trio of M.2 ports, each equipped with a heatsink and all able to support either PCIe NVMe SSDs (either in PCIe 4.0 or 3.0 flavours) in addition to SATA 6Gbps M.2 SSDs too. You get shiny, metal-clad ports and an elaborate fin-based VRM cooling array sitting on top of a 14-phase power delivery with the rest of the feature list being mostly generous too.

GIGABYTE MW32-SP0

So although Coffee Lake has been around on consumer platforms for 18 months, it’s no surprise that we’re still seeing new motherboard releases aimed at the professional Xeon end of the Coffee Lake market, which is likely to remain available for a while even now the 9th generation Intel Core processors have been around since last year. So we have Gigabyte’s MW32-SP0, designed for a single-socket Xeon E 2100 series processor.
