Today we take a look at one of the most expensive and well-endowed motherboards for the Z390 chipset; the GIGABYTE Z390 Aorus Xtreme. The Xtreme nomenclature basically replaces the Gaming 9, which replaced the UD9, one of the most intense X58 motherboards ever on the market.

The heatsink design is above average for a board in this pricing area; both make good contact with the components underneath, are screwed in, and the larger, left-hand one is multi-stacked for maximum heat dispersal – it’s interesting to note that MSI has gone with a reflective, accented finish to amplify any RGB you may have in the system. It’s a shame that the Gaming Edge AC hasn’t been able to introduce an integrated I/O shield; the heatsink design is crying out for it.

There’s USB 3.1, M.2 ports, the latest Wi-Fi standards, RGB lighting, etc. – they all add to asking prices, and finding a happy medium can be tricky, especially as you dip below £150 where things start to get very price-sensitive. The MSI MAG Z390 Tomahawk is slap-bang in the middle of all of this being the cheapest Z390 board we’ve reviewed so far. So what, if any, corners have been cut to get there?

Of course with a new processor and unique features comes a new chipset and a plethora of motherboards to choose from as the consumer. You can go all out and spend $500 on a board or spend significantly less and still get a motherboard that performs well and delivers all the things you expect from it. That being said, the motherboard I am looking at today is from ASUS ROG lineup, the ROG Strix Z390-E Gaming.
