The Prime X299-Deluxe we are looking at here happens to be the flagship in the ‘consumer’ X299 lineup, separate to the Republic of Gamers brand which focuses more on gaming functionality. The idea is that the non-gaming line has fewer of the gaming focused features, and might exhibit other appropriate features that a mainstream consumer is interested in.

Gigabyte recently released their X299 Aorus Gaming 7 PRO motherboard with improved VRM design, let’s have a look and review it. It is a nice motherboard in dark accents that resides in a high-end segment. This X299 motherboard can house Kaby-Lake-X and Skylake-X processors and has the looks to kill.

It’s certainly well equipped for a mini-ITX motherboard, offering M.2 and Optane support for blazing fast storage devices. High-end audio comes courtesy of the ALC1220 chipset, there’s super fast WiFi, high-end power delivery hardware and RGB lighting. The list goes on, but spec for spec, it would be easy to think this was a full-size ATX motherboard.

Whereas the Ryzen 5 2400G comes with four SMT-enabled Zen cores and 11 Radeon Vega CUs, the Ryzen 3 2200G includes four cores without simultaneous multi-threading and eight CUs, enabling 512 Stream processors. Although Ryzen 3’s resource allocation isn’t far off from the flagship, it costs $70 less than Ryzen 5 2400G.

Mini-ITX Z370 motherboards are not rare, but today we have a new mini-ITX Z370 motherboard from a company that typically does not partake in the mini-ITX game. SuperMicro’s subsidiary SuperO has one mission; to produce PC gaming products. That means SuperO is dedicated to making motherboards targeted at gamers, which is not an easy task since it is hard to relate motherboard features to equivalent gaming benefits.

The AM4 socket necessitates some interesting design choices. The heatsink-clad PCH is moved up to the top-left, as we look at it, but there’s still room for another heatsink on top of the 4+2-phase power supply. The Ryzen 5 2400G redefines our expectations for integrated graphics. It represents a great deal for budget gaming rig builders, and the ability to purchase a single chip without the added expense of a GPU adds to the value. You can tune the CPU, memory, and Vega graphics to boost performance, and compatibility with the existing 300-series motherboard ecosystem is a plus, but you’ll need to make sure the BIOS is compatible.
