ASUS ROG STRIX Z370-F GAMING

Asus says it has improved the trace layout between CPU and memory in order to further reduce crosstalk and noise when running DDR4 at high speeds. To this end, the in-house-developed OptiMem technology pushes the maximum supported speed up from 3,600MHz (Z270-F) to 4,000MHz with all slots populated.

Coffee Lake: Core i7-8700K and Core i5-8400

All these new processors are desktop parts, meaning they are socketed processors for use in appropriate motherboards featuring the Z370 chipset. Technically these processors use the LGA1151 socket, which is also used by the 6th Generation and 7th Generation processors with the Z170 and Z270 chipsets. However due to differences in the pin-layout of these two sets of processors, 8th Gen will only work in Z370 boards and there is no level of cross compatibility. We will discuss this later.

EVGA X299 Micro

Given the performance X299 is capable of, I’m excited to see if this board could be a good mATX build option to pack a lot of performance in a smaller package. EVGA typically keeps things simple with a blacked out look and little to no lighting for those who just want a clean good performing board. Let’s find out if that is the case again.

MSI X299 XPOWER GAMING AC

MSI’s X299 XPOWER GAMING AC is one of MSI’s more recent X299 motherboards, and it features certain upgrades over the X299 Gaming M7 ACK and X299 Gaming Pro Carbon AC, including improved VRM cooling and many more features. For starters, the XPOWER line has always been targeted more towards enthusiast power users and overclockers rather than gamers, although the features do overlap.
