ASRock’s Taichi products are one of my favorites. They are very clearly designed for users just like me. They make use of all the platform’s features and add nothing extra or superfluous; it’s just nitty-gritty goodness that soothes the soul. The ASRock X299 Taichi definitely does this, but there are a couple ripples on the lake’s surface that have left me a bit perplexed.

Today I’m going to check out the Gigabyte X299 Gaming 3 from the Aorus brand. It isn’t Gigabytes lowest priced board, but at just under $280 for the MSRP it is down close to the range that people who aren’t shopping for $1000 or more CPUs would be looking. Today, we’re looking at the Prime X299-A from Asus, which retails for around £275, which is £25 less than the ROG Strix X299-E Gaming – not quite as cheap as other model’s we’ve yet to look at such as the Asus TUF X299 Mark 2 but a little more reasonable nonetheless.

Naturally as our GPUs require ever more cooling then the extra headers for case fans and the like become even more useful. It’s also nice to have the ability to control the fans to be quiet during those moments when you are just idly browsing the net, and the ASUS allows for that.

If you see an Asus mainstream motherboard with Deluxe in the title, you can be pretty sure of an extensive goody-bag lurking in the box, and while Asus’ premium X299 motherboard requires a hefty investment, we doubt any enthusiast’s heart rate wouldn’t climb when they take a look inside the box.
