ASRock is the last of the big four vendors to send over an Intel Z690 platform for us to test and review. The PG Velocita is an upper mid-range platform sitting under the Taichi, but above the Extreme, Steel Legend, and Pro series. It also happens to be one of the first Z690 boards to have the Intel Killer Suite that includes the AX1675 for WiFi6e and E3100G 2.5Gbe LAN.

The aesthetics of this AORUS B660 AORUS MASTER DDR4 has not changed much compared to the LGA 1200 generation, or at least not as much as it has with the Z690. It is something normal for being a board with a mid-range chipset, always using a standard ATX format .
The heatsinks do seem to have increased in size as they cover more area of the board. Always using right angles for a robust look and combining gray and black. And starting from the top half , we have a strong dual-block passive system to take care of the VRM, in this case with separate blocks using high-performance thermal pads.

About three months ago, Intel launched its 12th Gen Core series Alder Lake-S desktop CPUs at the Innovation 2021 event. Alder Lake-S needs to be paired with socket LGA1700-based 600-series chipset motherboards. And while the same socket, also sometimes called LGA1800, is expected to be re-used for the succeeding 13th Gen Raptor Lake CPUs too, the chipset will be all-new 700-series ones.
Motherboard vendor Biostar looks like it has already started working on the next-gen boards and has applied for Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) certification. Twitter leakster @harukaze5719 has spotted a number of these motherboard models, Z790 and Z760, on the EEC portal.

It’s worth noting that while we’re reviewing the Aorus Pro DDR5 model, there’s also a DDR4 version. Sadly, though it’s easily found in my native Australia, is not available in the US or the EU. That’s a real shame as the Aorus Pro DDR4 looks like it’s one of the better featured DDR4 boards, though I guess we can understand the desire to keep the DDR4 models more on the budget end of things.

The integrated LED lighting is also an absolute eye-catcher, which can be adjusted as desired thanks to Polychrome Sync. There are only a few drawbacks in detail, such as the lack of a debug display, which the ASRock Z690 Extreme, for example, only shows relatively roughly with four PSC LEDs compared to the ASRock Z690 Taichi.
