ASRock Z590 PG Velocita- PC Gamer

The ASRock Z590 PG Velocita is part of the relatively new Velocita product family. It aims to appeal to gamers looking for a premium tier gaming board without wanting to shell out the big dollars for things like add-in cards, water blocks, or 10G Lan. It sits below the Taichi and above the mainstream lines in ASRock’s product stack; think of it like Asus’ TUF Gaming range of boards.

The X570 Velocita and the Z490 Velocita were well received. But does the new Z590 flavour have what it takes to compete in a cut-throat competitive market?

ASRock Z590 PG Velocita – Hexus

Let’s start with the good. We like the general layout, colour scheme (surprisingly), and appreciate the attention paid to larger VGA cards through the bundled holder. Power delivery is robust, heatsinks extremely well-built, and enough onboard buttons and fans to sate enthusiasts’ needs.

But we’d prefer a richer I/O panel, more 20Gbps USB, full-speed AVX by default, and a dual 2.5G networking suite from Intel.

We’d therefore recommend ASRock drop the price of this board down to, say, £250, given our conclusions. At that price point, with due consideration of the competition, the Z590 PG Velocita becomes decent instead of reasonable.

ASRock Z590 Extreme – FunkyKit

ASRock Z590 Extreme delivers everything that most gamers need. It’s fast, stable, offers compatibility with a wide range of devices, supports RGB and ARGB illumination standards, and overclocks well. Its name can be a bit misleading as it’s not really an extreme motherboard but still really solid and may give a lot of fun to its users. Those who are searching for something really extreme, have to wait some more for the OC Formula which was just announced.

ASRock Z590 Extreme – Guru3D

As mentioned, the ASRock Z590 EXTREME is a product aimed at the value segment; at 200 USD, you get roughly the same performance as the premium board. However, compromises come at more limited features. Just three M2 slots, an ALC1220 audio CODEC, the lack of Thunderbolt and WIFI are among them. However, you still get that baseline performance and plenty of connectivity, as well as a 2.5 GigE Ethernet (Dragon RTL8125BG). The dark-looking and themed motherboard can be customized LEDs-wise. The motherboard offers your typical x16 PCI-Express slots (with Rocket lake x16 Gen 4.0 lanes are supported), good outfitted rear IO, and LED configurable options.

ASRock Z590 Taichi – Vortez

At the high-end of the Intel Z590 range, the assortment of motherboards tend to offer similar feature-sets but the Taichi steps away from the crowd to offer up Thunderbolt 4 and we’re really impressed they decided to include this. This technology futureproofs the motherboard and gives access to 40 Gbps storage bandwidth. Taichi also delivers plenty of USB 3.2, up to three M.2 slots and of course PCIe 4.0 functionality (provided a Rocket Lake CPUs is being used).

ASRock Z590 Taichi – Overclocking

This “Taichi” series, which was already present on previous generations, represents the top of the range of the ASRock brand on the Z590 chipset . Although we have officially learned of the arrival of an “OC Formula” version intended for overclockers. The “OC Formula” series ceased to exist on the mainstream socket after the Z170. With the arrival of the Z590 chipset and especially the Rocket Lake processors, several brands, such as Aorus, have decided to re-propose a unique model for overclokers. We will of course try to get our hands on a copy.
