The initial cost of buying a new CPU (especially if it’s the i9-10900K) may push the budget up for many system builders and therefore it’s understandable that many who are seeking to move to this new platform will be trying to keep the overall cost to a minimum. ASRock B460 Steel Legend

The ASRock B460 Steel Legend is an awesomely named mid-range B460 entry. At $120 USD it’s what we’d call a mid-range B460 board. A look over the specs indicate that your $120 is well spent on some important areas. You get a pair of heatsink covered M.2 slots, an e-key M.2 slot for an optional Wi-Fi card, a front USB Type-C header and a good helping of RGB onboard, plus an additional two RGB headers and two ARGB headers.

ASRock B550 Taichi

The ASRock B550 Taichi — and other B550 boards priced close to $300 — are in a peculiar space. While the B550 Taichi looks the part and is, by most accounts, a premium motherboard, it still isn’t X570. But if you are willing to shell out $300 for a B550 motherboard, the Taichi has that high-end look, performs well, and brings enough features to stand with its peers.

The Intel W480 Chipset: For Xeon W-1200

Some of the notable technologies on Intel’s Xeon W-1200 series processors include Turbo Boost Max 3.0 which boosts a single core far, and beyond the overall base frequency, e.g. the Intel Xeon W-1290P which is the top SKU has a base frequency of 3.7 GHz, with a maximum Thermal Velocity Boost single-core speed of up to 5.3 GHz. ASRock Z490 Phantom Gaming ITX/TB3

The ASRock Z490 Phantom Gaming ITX/TB3 is another board hailing from ASRock’s highly successful Phantom Gaming line. ASRock’s Phantom Gaming family of motherboards was introduced with the Z390 platform not much more than a year ago. The product line features black, red, and gray styling, 2.5 Gb/s LAN, and an emphasis on performance.

The AMD B550 Motherboard Overview

That changes with the new B500 series as consumers no longer have PCIe 4.0 on the chipset, instead reverting back to PCIe 3.0. This ultimately should not be an issue, as budget builds are unlikely to have multiple PCIe 4.0 add-in drives, for example. Nonetheless, the high vocal demand for B550 motherboards, especially after AMD launched Ryzen 3, has not gone unnoticed, and there are over 40 new models in the market, most of which should be on sale from today.
