ASUS ROG STRIX B550-XE GAMING WIFI

ASUS ROG STRIX B550-XE Gaming WiFi is the ROG STRIX series motherboard, which was released specifically for the new AMD Ryzen 5000 series processors. It may seem to some that the difference in the name by only one letter does not make a new product out of the board, but in this case everything is somewhat different. Yes, the design of the ROG STRIX B550-XE Gaming and ROG STRIX B550-E Gaming is similar, but this is just not the first glance. Model XE received a new design of the cooling system (and even now it is active), a completely different set of power elements in the power subsystem, as well as something really eye-catching in the package.

ASUS ROG CROSSHAIR VIII DARK HERO

The Crosshair from ASUS has been the gaming platform for AMD users since it was introduced in 2006. Within this platform, the Hero has been the mid-range board for the last eight generations to the top end Crosshair Formula that has a few upgrades of its own. That said, the Hero has been one of the most popular boards for gamers and enthusiasts building on the AMD X570 platform. With the release of the AMD Ryzen 5000 CPU series in early November, ASUS readied several new motherboards to complement this plethora of processors; one of these new boards is the ROG Dark Hero VIII.

ASUS ROG CROSSHAIR VIII DARK HERO

ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero is a rather expensive motherboard, but its price is justified by its capabilities even in comparison with its predecessor without the word Dark in the name. Like all other Republic of Gamers boards, the new Crosshair VIII series has a first-class component base (1.5 times stronger power subsystem) and, importantly, an efficient cooling system. In terms of functionality, everything is fine – all modern ports and interfaces are available to us, including three network connections at once – 1 Gb / s, 2.5 Gb / s and high-speed Wi-Fi 6.

ASUS ROG CROSSHAIR VIII DARK HERO

An easier method than manual overclocking, however, is to simply enable the AMD Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO). With this enabled, our sample would still hit 4.5GHz on all cores, though more typically it settled at 4.4GHz. Importantly, it leaves lightly threaded boosting enabled and, as you can see in the benchmarks, you get a big multi threading boost and lose nothing under single threaded or gaming loads.

We were also able to reach an Infinity Fabric clock of 2,066MHz, which combined with a 1:1 memory clock results in DDR4-4133 with tight timings. That’s not something we’ve been able to achieve with other Ryzen 5000 silicon or other boards so far. The Dark Hero was bootable with extra SoC and CCD voltage even higher than this.

ASUS Adds Resizable BAR Support to Z490, H470 & B460 Motherboards

Resizable BAR (Base Address Register), the technology behind AMD’s Smart Access Memory (SAM), isn’t exclusive to Ryzen owners anymore. Asus has released an entire wave of new firmwares for various Z490 motherboards that enable the Resizable BAR feature.

The firmware, which sports the 1002 version number, is fresh out of the oven as Asus evidently uploaded it just yesterday. The firmware is currently in the beta stage so there might be some bugs here and there. It also lacks a detailed description of the changes. We can, however, confirm that the 1003 firmware effectively brings support for Resizable BAR, as evidenced by the newly added “Above 4G Decoding” and “Re-Size BAR Support” options in our ROG Maximus XII Apex motherboard’s BIOS.

ASUS ROG STRIX B450-I GAMING

The mini-ITX format is a delicate matter like aligning the legs of an LGA socket. Here, a factor such as congestion / oversaturation is already starting to play a role. Adding something over and above the standard set has to be greatly perverted, resorting to non-standard solutions, “sandwich” approach, daughter boards, and sometimes to changing the usual topology.

ASUS Radeon RX 6800 XT STRIX OC LC

ASUS submitted a Radeon RX 6800 XT graphics card for review; this one is a bit more special though as it has been fitted with hybrid cooling. Yes, you’ll see Liquid cooling applied on the primary GPU area, and then a fan can cool down some of the additional components. The result is a graphics card that looks stunning and is very silent, as well. The card was fabbed around a custom PCB, premium components, a hybrid cooler, and increased clock frequencies, as well as an increased power limiter.

ASUS ROG STRIX Z490-I GAMING

The Z490 chipset is built to accommodate the best of Comet Lake, however some prefer to use small mini-ITX configurations rather than ATX format monsters. In this game, manufacturers have not turned a deaf ear and have released a few models in small format, allowing you to take advantage of the best of the latest generation of processors from Intel, at least on paper.
