ASUS ROG STRIX Z370-E GAMING

The single light bar on the board hints that it’s not designed for serious show-offs, but that’s okay with us. Lots of people are more interested in what a board can do than with what it looks like. And besides, there’s nothing unsightly about brushed-aluminum heat sinks or a plastic I/O connector cover that’s been painted silver to match.

ASUS PRIME X299-A

ASUS ROG STRIX Z370-I GAMING

That said, the ROG Strix Z370-I Gaming, like many Z370 boards, doesn’t appear to offer that much more compared to its predecessor. ASUS WS X299 SAGE

It has the usual X299 selection of 8 DIMM slots supporting DDR4 at 4133 MHz for mind-blowing bandwidth. Storage, always important, starts with the ‘still pretty fast’ eight SATA ports and quickly ramps up to the insane world of U.2 and M.2 NVMe drives which pump out numbers so high that you would think they’d just been to Woodstock.

ASUS ROG STRIX Z370-I GAMING

Despite the diminutive form factor ASUS Have managed to squeeze and awful lot on the Strix ITX PCB. From the features we’ve come to expect such as the SupremeFX audio, AC WiFi and GameFirst LAN, there are a few that we’re pleased to see have made the journey from their ATX motherboards, including dual M.2 ports, dedicated water pump headers and even a USB 3.1 front panel connector.
