NZXT N7 B550 – Hexus

The N7 B550 looks even sleeker than its Intel Z490 cousin because although it uses the same metal covers and vents, there’s even less silver around the CPU socket. This is one good-looking piece of kit with minimal interruptions. In fact, only a few red status LEDs at the bottom indicate that it’s booting and they switch off once POST has been achieved. If Batman had a board, this would be it.
NZXT actually boosts this board’s electrical performance compared to Z490, which is strange yet more than welcome. Built on a six-layer PCB, there’s a 12+2-phase supply with 50A on each. Put simply, you cannot run enough voltage through, say, a Ryzen 9 5950X for the board to be the limiting factor. Unlike some with connected heatpipes, a large, L-shaped metal block cools the power delivery. Truth is even this is overkill given the intended purpose.

NZXT N7 B550 – Overclocking

This NZXT N7 B550 is built around AMD’s chipset , the B550, which is a bit like the little brother of the X570 chipset . This motherboard has an AM4 socket which can accommodate third generation Ryzen as well as second generation Ryzen but especially new Ryzen 5000 processors after updating your BIOS. As a reminder, AMD recommends switching to AGESA V2 PI 1.1.0.0 as a minimum in order to take full advantage of the performance of its new CPUs. We have also benefited from a new BIOS update for our tests compatible with AGESA V2 PI 1.2.0.0.

AMD AGESA 1.2.0.1 Patch A BIOS Start Rolling Out

Over at Wccftech, they’ve posted a fantastic listing of motherboards that have rolled out the AMD AGESA 1.2.0.1 Patch A:

AMD was meant to release its AGESA 1.2.0.2 BIOS Firmware to address the USB connectivity issues faced by several users however, it seems like the company has fast-forwarded the release with the AGESA 1.2.0.1 Patch A BIOS Firmware which is currently being offered by two motherboard makers, MSI & ASRock. The AGESA 1.2.0.2 BETA BIOS Firmware was also expected to launch in early April & it looks like some board makers weren’t exactly happy with the timeframe it would take to release a fix for the intermittent USB issues that plagued the AMD Ryzen 5000 (X570 / B550) platform.

Today is a big day for those who are fans of both NZXT and AMD. Now the clean and builder-friendly style of NZXT motherboards can be experienced by those using AMD processors. NZXT N7 B550 – Tom’s Hardware

Performance-wise, the N7 B550 did well overall in our test suite. We observed above-average results in the PCMark10 tests, with the other results mixing in with all other B550 and X570 based systems. According to Hwinfo, the board boosted our 5950X to 5 GHz (albeit briefly, per usual), so this chip’s full potential is realized during default operations. When overclocking, the board efficiently handled our CPU with the VRMs running warm, but well within specification throughout all testing. The functionality of the NZXT N7 B550 is excellent for its niche. The board has as many as 21 (!) USB ports of various types (including 5 (five!) USB 3.2 Gen2), 2 PCIe x16 slots (of which the first receives 16 PCIe lanes from the processor) with the ability to combine video cards into AMD CrossFire, 2 PCIe x1 slots for expansion cards, 2 M.2 slots, 6 SATA ports, 7 connectors for fans and pumps. There is both a high-speed wired 2.5 Gigabit controller and a modern wireless controller with support for Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2. ARGB / RGB devices can be connected to control the backlight.
