It won’t beat the Founders Edition out of the box, and with its very, very small overclock you will get pretty close to the RTX 3080 FE performance. But, the ZOTAC custom GeForce RTX 3080 Trinity runs 8C cooler at stock settings (72C versus 79C) and has a triple-fan setup that won’t blow hot air up into your CPU (like the RTX 3080 FE does, if you didn’t want that).

The ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3080 OC retains the military-grade metal aesthetic characteristic of the brand. It uses a meaty cooling solution that features multiple fin stacks which are ventilated by a trio of ASUS’s new-generation Axial-Tech fans. There’s lavish use of metal on both the cooler shroud and the backplate. The cooler is longer than the PCB underneath.

We’ll be testing at 1080p, 1440 and 4K at both medium and ultra presets. We said in the RTX 3080 review that it’s a card primarily designed for 4K gaming, and that it starts to hit CPU bottlenecks at 1440p. That applies even more at 1080p with medium settings.

The most notable change from a user point of view is that instead of the strange 12 pin power input the Founders Edition had, the MSI Gaming X Trio has a more familiar power input setup, with three 8 pin PCIe connectors on the right hand side rather than in the middle.

As one of the more affordable options in the ASUS Ampere RTX 3080 range, the TUF follows the Nvidia setup very closely, except for the addition of the triple fan cooler. This particular model has a factory overclock, although neither the packaging nor the specifications table on their website specify exactly how much quicker this is than the default TUF.
