AnandTech’s Best AMD Motherboard: 9/20

Our recommendations for motherboards are based entirely on my personal and professional opinion. There are notably a large number of different motherboards across the AMD chipsets including B450, X570 and more recently, B550, so I selected my top four picks based on the four market segments.

One of the things that I didn’t really expect when testing both the Celsius+ Prisma S24 and S28 models by Fractal Design was the significantly lesser noise levels compared to the S36 (roughly 8.5dBA less for the S24 and 7.5dBA less for the S28) which are also what makes them far more ideal for people who do care about this. Cooling efficiency on the other hand was much closer than expected with the S28 probably delivering the best price/performance ratio of the three (of course the lack of protective plates for the fins still has me puzzled).

Budget Micro ATX B550 Mobo Roundup

Specifically, we’ll be looking at the ASRock B550M-HDV ($80.99), Gigabyte’s B550M DS3H ($94.99), the MSI B550M Pro-VDH Wi-Fi ($109.99), and our costliest contender, the Asus Prime B550M K ($120.99). Compared to what we’ve looked at in the past on B550, these boards skip many of the accouterments we’re used to seeing, like RGB lighting, shrouds and heatsinks on some items, and premium power delivery.

We see not only GeForce RTX 3080 products that Gigabyte has already announced, but also unannounced models, including boards with 20GB of GDDR6X (confirming our supposition above). But that’s not all, there are also references to other unannounced products including the GeForce RTX 3060, which we’ve previously talked about.

GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3080 EAGLE OC 10G

On the face of it, the Gigabyte RTX 3080 Eagle OC appears to tick all the boxes for a third-party graphics card. It has a large, triple-fan cooler, factory overclocked core, RGB lighting, full length metal backplate, and tweaked power delivery compared to a reference board. Considering it is coming in at that £649 MSRP, then, it certainly sounds impressive on paper.
