Looking at the board more closely, we can see that Aorus adds in the usual bevy of board-mounted buttons – Power, Reset, Auto OC and Economy – down at the bottom and moves the handy Clear CMOS to the edge, just below the large, RGB-laden heatsink that dominates the middle of the board.

For some reason it is not called the “X299 AORUS Gaming 5″, perhaps because it is too close to the Gaming 7 feature-wise, mainly just missing the extra Killer Gigabit LAN, the ES9018Q2C chip for audio and has less USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports.

The X299 Aorus Gaming 3 looks like its high-end Gaming 7 sibling in many respects, starting with a voltage regulator that Gigabyte calls nine-phase, which appears to actually be a 9+3 phase design. Competitors would call that 12 phases. If it overclocks our 10-core CPU reasonably, we’ll call it good enough.

Gigabyte offers a rock-solid X399 motherboard with the Aorus Gaming 7, really impressive. From beginning to end, we had no issues and the performance simply is top notch. At roughly 350 USD / 369 EURO this board certainly is a hell-of-a-lot more affordable compared to the ASUS Zenith, and it performs at least as well.
