Today in the Hardware Kitchen we are testing the GIGABYTE Z690 AORUS MASTER motherboard, a high-end motherboard from AORUS based on the brand new Intel LGA1700 socket. Therefore , this card is only compatible with the new generation of Alder Lake-S processors like the i9-12900K , i7-12700K , i5-12600K , in short everything that starts with 12. But it is also the first generation of motherboards to support DDR5 memory as well as PCIe 5.0. So there are quite a few things to see.

At first glance, we can see that the Z690 AORUS Xtreme gets a total makeover for the box design with an even fancier looking AORUS Eagle than the Z590 AORUS Xtreme and we can clearly see that they’re pushing hard on the PCIe 5.0 and DDR5 support on the Z690 chipset board. Information at the back of the box is still presented in a similar layout except that it’s now with the new features for the Z690 AORUS Xtreme.

The Pro series never disappoints, and proof of this will be its 4 M.2 PCIe 4.0 slots with heatsinks, PCIe 5.0 slot or its capacity for DDR5 modules up to 6200 MHz . It also has USB Gen2x2 , ALC4080 sound card , reinforced slots and video port. Although it is surprising that it is limited to Wi-Fi 6 (not 6E), but they are necessary details to lower the price not of much importance in practice. What leaves no doubt is that it will get the best out of the 12600K as we have seen in your analysis, let’s start your review!

These power phases are one of the key reasons why the Master is, in our opinion, the second highest model Gigabyte do on the Z690 chipset. 105A + 105A + 70A for the relevant phases match the Aorus Xtreme, whilst the Aorus Tachyon and Aorus Ultra have 105A + 60A + 70A. The Master also has more storage slots, with two extra SATA ports an 1 PCIe 3.0 M.2 more than the Xtreme models.

AORUS indicates on the back of the box that this model has 19 digital power phases, 16 of them dedicated to the processor, a VCCGT for integrated graphics and another 2 VCCAUX for PCIe and memory controller. The first look at the Z690 AORUS MASTER impresses, we start with the dissipation. In VRM the generous blocks we saw in the PRO version give way to a dense number of fins with a larger air contact surface for thermoconduction. For a top-class mainboard, the accessories are rather clear, but Gigabyte provides all the important accessories. Apart from a support data carrier, the mainboard manual is of course included, which can be obtained from the Gigabyte website as well as the drivers. Also included are six SATA cables, five M.2 screws, two thermistor cables, the 2T2R WiFi antenna and an RGB extension cable. Apart from various Gigabyte stickers, we were also able to locate a noise detection cable, the G-Connector and the Gigabyte AORUS housing sticker.
