ASUS PRIME Series Z690 Motherboards Break Cover

We received four photos of the upcoming Z690 PRIME motherboards from ASUS. The PRIME series used to be the mid-tier segment in the company’s lineup, but in the past few years, they have progressively been pushed back by TUF the lowest tier. The good news is that we finally get to see the design of the (almost) cheapest motherboards of the next generation.

It is worth noting that ASUS will be launching as many as 10 Z690 PRIME motherboards. The A-Series, which is a higher sub-tier in the PRIME series with the addition of RGB lighting etc., and V-Series (the lowest tier) have not been pictured yet.

MSI MEG Z690 ACE Teaser

The MEG Z690 ACE appears to introduce a new design scheme with die-cast metal mesh rear I/O shrouds, and a gold+black trim. The I/O shroud design is interesting as it lets the VRM heatsink underneath breathe better. The silver-white MPG motherboard is possibly the MPG Z690 Force. MSI is probably trying to get this to rival the ROG Strix-A SKU by ASUS. The third teaser, of a brushed gunmetal shroud, is likely the MAG Z690 Tomahawk. Like most other brands, MSI appears to have an extensive lineup of Socket LGA 1700 motherboards with DDR4 memory slots, although boards with DDR4 are restricted to the MAG and entry-level PRO series. The mid-tier MPG and enthusiast-segment MEG series boards only come with DDR5.

Massive Intel Z690 Motherboard List Revealed

If the amount of upcoming Z690 was anything to go by, one could presume that the motherboard makers are backing Intel’s upcoming platform to the max, as a leaked list of what should be close to every Z690 that will hit the market, counts a total of 98 boards. The list covers ASRock, ASUS, Biostar, NZXT, Gigabyte and MSI, but not EVGA and some other smaller players.

ASUS ROG STRIX Z690-I GAMING WIFI – Stacked Design?

By far the most interesting thing about this leak is the design of the daughterboards installed right on top of the space usually reserved for an M.2 slot. It is hard to tell from this angle but this might be ASUS’ solution to attaching multiple M.2 slots as well as extension ports and audio chipset to such a tiny design.

ASUS Z690 motherboard series is set to launch around November 4th, when Intel officially lifts the sale embargo. However according to previous reports they might go on sale a week sooner (preorders). The board has recently appeared in a retailer leak (here and here) with a price tag of 360 to 451 EUR (without VAT).

ASRock Z690 Motherboards Pictured @ Videocardz

The Z690 Taichi, Extreme, and Steel Legend represent the upper-tier in the lineup, although the company is also working on Aqua series featuring pre-installed monoblock. After the departure of the Fatal1ty series, ASRock initially focused on the Phantom Gaming series, but those appear to be going lower in the lineup with each generation.

Furthermore, the lack of H670/B660 and H610 boards here suggests those are not launching at the same time as the Z690 series.

Intel Z690 Motherboards Hit Canadian Retailer Listings

A wide range of Z690 motherboards by ASUS is now listed by PC Canada, a Canadian PC hardware retailer. The new flagship ROG Maximus series starts at 755/789 CAD or 599/625 USD after conversion, with the Hero being the only Maximus listed board. The lack of other Maximus boards in the initial listing may suggest that ASUS is to launch Apex, Extreme, and other Maximus boards at a later date.

GIGABYTE Z690 AORUS ELITE AX DDR4 – 16-Phase VRM for Alder Lake

The Gigabyte Z690 Aorus Elite AX DDR4 should be very good at overclocking and compete with the best motherboards on the market. Gigabyte equipped it with a 16+1+2-phased power delivery subsystem with 70A power stages. According to the marketing material, 16 stages are for the V-Core, while one phase is destined for the VCCDT and the remaining two phases for the VCCAUX.
