The Z690 Taichi comes in two SKUs; the standard Z690 Taichi and a Razer Edition, which we will be looking at in an upcoming review. Hardware-wise, these two platforms are nearly identical; Taichi is a Z690 chipset platform using DDR5 memory. Memory support is across four slots with a maximum capacity of 128GB. Speeds supported start at the bottom with JEDEC 4800 and run up to 6400MHz with XMP.

In this review, we will be taking a look at the CVN Z690M, which is the latest Colorful motherboard from their Gaming Frozen series. As the name suggests, the motherboard comes in a cold and frosty colors, which is mainly white and silver. I’m glad to see that Colorful keeps delivering black and white versions of the higher motherboard series. It gives a chance to design a PC in two different themes, and it’s not hard to notice that white motherboards do look special. It would be even better if one day we see a comeback to colorful PCBs like yellow, green, or red.

Many will already ask themselves why we decided to do a short test with the MSI MAG Z690 TOMAHAWK WIFI. The reason is quite obvious: The substructure of the MAG Z690 TOMAHAWK WIFI used by MSI is, with a few exceptions, identical to the already tested MSI MAG Z690 TORPEDO (Hardwareluxx test) . The connections, but also the VRM area, were adopted 1:1 and so a 16+1+1 phase design is used. The motherboard we are looking at today is the BIOSTAR Racing Z690 GTA (Z690GTA Ver. 5.0) Socket 1700 motherboard. It is a DDR4, LGA 1700 motherboard based on Intel’s Z690 chipset. Given the transitional nature of the chipset, you can get some motherboards with either DDR4 or DDR5 support. However, none of the boards we’ve seen that have variants supporting either memory technology do so at the same time, meaning you have to buy the version you want and you are stuck with it.

The flagship motherboard should have a lot of modern interfaces. Not the fact that all of them will be useful to the user, but you need to match the status.
