ASRock X299M Extreme4

The X299M Extreme4’s I/O panel has a gap where you’d expect to find a Wi-Fi controller on higher motherboard models, with a CLR_CMOS button next to that gap. Competitor MSI justifies more of its price difference by including a Flashback button to enable updating firmware without a compatible CPU or RAM.

Today, we have published an Intel X299 Micro ATX motherboard test with a sweepstake on OCinside.de! After the recently released AMD Threadripper Micro ATX motherboards from ASRock we have the Intel X299 Micro ATX tested today. The new ASRock X299M Extreme4 not only offers great features like three PCI Express slots, two Ultra M.2 32Gb/s slots, eight SATA3 ports, etc. but even has some more unusual features like the OC header.

Intel Core i7-8086K

Intel’s 8086, the company’s first processor to use its ubiquitous x86 instruction set architecture, debuted on June 8, 1978. Forty years later and by some stroke of fortuitous timing, Intel’s desktop CPU portfolio is loaded with eighth-generation Core processors. So it was only fitting, then, that after a bit of prodding by a well-known chip analyst, Intel announced that it’d pay homage to the 8086 with a 40th-anniversary limited-edition Core i7-8086K.

GIGABYTE H370N WIFI

The short list of uncommon features Gigabyte adds to this board includes a DisplayPort-to-HDMI 2.0 adapter for one of the three display outputs, a pair of Intel Gigabit Ethernet ports, and Intel’s latest CNVi-based 1.73Gb/s Wi-Fi module. Gigabyte also adds a second NVMe-compatible M.2 storage slot, the omission of which we decried on the competing ASRock H370M-ITX/ac.

GIGABYTE H370N WIFI

With that in mind, we have had an opportunity to look at the GIGABYTE H370N WIFI Mini-ITX motherboard. The SFF board gives users nearly all the connectivity wanted in a 6.7″ x 6.7″ package. The H370N includes dual M.2 slots for high-speed storage, four SATA ports for HDDs/SSDs, an 802.11ac Wave2 Wi-Fi module with 1.73 Gbps bandwidth, and a USB Type-C port on the back panel.
