At an MSRP of £109, the board is going up against Gigabyte’s AB350N-Gaming WiFi, and the latter is certainly a little more attractive with a less obvious brown PCB and some red details compared to the slightly generic black theme going on with the MSI board.

Despite the diminutive form factor ASUS Have managed to squeeze and awful lot on the Strix ITX PCB. From the features we’ve come to expect such as the SupremeFX audio, AC WiFi and GameFirst LAN, there are a few that we’re pleased to see have made the journey from their ATX motherboards, including dual M.2 ports, dedicated water pump headers and even a USB 3.1 front panel connector.

The Strix Z370-I Gaming provides excellent hardware with only the smallest of layout concerns. We recommend waiting for another firmware update that patches the Load-line Calibration bug before adding it to your shopping list.

It’s certainly well equipped for a mini-ITX motherboard, offering M.2 and Optane support for blazing fast storage devices. High-end audio comes courtesy of the ALC1220 chipset, there’s super fast WiFi, high-end power delivery hardware and RGB lighting. The list goes on, but spec for spec, it would be easy to think this was a full-size ATX motherboard.

Mini-ITX Z370 motherboards are not rare, but today we have a new mini-ITX Z370 motherboard from a company that typically does not partake in the mini-ITX game. SuperMicro’s subsidiary SuperO has one mission; to produce PC gaming products. That means SuperO is dedicated to making motherboards targeted at gamers, which is not an easy task since it is hard to relate motherboard features to equivalent gaming benefits.

The AM4 socket necessitates some interesting design choices. The heatsink-clad PCH is moved up to the top-left, as we look at it, but there’s still room for another heatsink on top of the 4+2-phase power supply. Mini-ITX AM4 motherboards are not that common because many vendors are waiting for AMD’s ITX-specific chipsets such as the X300. However, many vendors have jumped the gun and implemented the X370 chipset with its many features because many users want to do mini-ITX based Ryzen builds.
