MSI is sensible in a couple of further ways. There’s a front-panel USB Type-C header (10Gbps) for the latest chassis and integrated Thunderbolt 3 via an Intel JHL7540 chip. Both are handy for such a small board. Those wanting RGB goodness can still use the two JRAINBOW addressable connectors at the top and side.

The ASRock B550 Phantom Gaming-ITX/AX delivers strong out of the box performance in multi-threaded tests. Whilst this is a clear positive, the performance results are clearly skewed by the aggressive stock voltages and erroneous sensor readings that likely drive the PB2 algorithm to higher CPU frequencies.

AsRock are one of the finest brands out there, and they’ve created many of the best looking and more feature-packed motherboards for several generations now. Premium, mini-ITX, Phantom, flagship, these are all words that roughly translate to expensive. However, despite the price tag, it seems you’re getting everything you’re paying for and then some with the ITX/TB3.

Asus has some of the largest selection of motherboards and we have the minuscule ASUS ROG Strix B550-I motherboard on the test bench. The ROG Strix B550-I is a mini ITX motherboard which is great for small builds. Over the last few generations, ITX boards have been able to meet the performance of their full-size counterparts and the Strix B550-I aims to keep this trend going.

Gigabyte has pushed the limits with the Mini-ITX Z490I Aorus Ultra as they are powering the LGA1200 socket with no less than eight VRM phases that are each rated at 90A. That is a mighty level of power and in addition they have constructed the output filters from an array of Surface Mounted Tantalum Polymer Capacitors.

The ASRock Z490 Phantom Gaming ITX/TB3 is another board hailing from ASRock’s highly successful Phantom Gaming line. ASRock’s Phantom Gaming family of motherboards was introduced with the Z390 platform not much more than a year ago.
