MSI MAG B560M MORTAR WIFI – Vortez

There are some obvious features missing from using a B560 motherboard and a Micro-ATX variant at that, but this may not matter to many enthusiasts who are simply wanting to indulge in Intel’s Rocket Lake without having it hit their wallet hard. Some of the higher-end features are missing but we still get USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 and of course, PCIe 4.0 (provided we use an 11th Gen CPU) for storage and the expansion slots. One disappointing inclusion is the sheer number of USB 2.0 and USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, this feels stagnant and we would have really liked to see more USB 3.2 Gen 2 instead.

MSI Announces New A520, B550 mATX Motherboards

MSI has announced two new entry-level mATX motherboards, the MAG A520M BAZOOKA WIFI and the MAG B550M VECTOR WIFI. These are both interesting boards, with the A520 board being one of the few that feature an integrated Wi-Fi solution. It features a heatsink on the VCore portion of the VRM, as well as an available M.2 heatsink. While AMD has done a great job of maintaining motherboard compatibility with new generation processors, none of the previous-generation AM4 motherboards featured official PCIe 4.0 support, not even from the storage and PCIe controlled by PCIe 4.0 compatible CPUs. Enter B550, the more value-oriented little brother of X570. While the B550 chipset is PCIe 3.0 only, B550 motherboards support PCIe 4.0 from the CPU to the primary PCIe slot as well as the primary M.2 slot (dependent on a PCIe 4.0 ready CPU).

ASRock B550M Steel Legend

It has a Camouflage pattern PCB that uses silver heatsinks, one of which supports the chipset and the main M.2 slot which is a PCIe 4.0 x4 slot while the secondary one is below it and is unfortunately running at 3.0 x2 and disables the top two SATA ports when in use. The fact that it is limited to only 3.0 x2 and is a secondary drive may make adding a heatsink, an unnecessary cost that most users in this price point.
