MSI MAG Z690 TOMAHAWK WIFI – OC3D

With very solid performance wrapped in a flexible memory choice structure and on a motherboard that might be all-black, but uses many different textures and types of black to still be attractive to the eye, the MSI MAG Z690 Tomahawk is a great option for those of you who want to move to the 12th Generation of Intel CPUs and all their features, but without busting the budget. VRM temperatures are excellent too, showing that MSI haven’t compromised the build quality to reach the affordability target.

MSI Rolling Out Updated Z690 Motherboard BIOS’

So talking about the new changes, first of all, there’s a new CPU microcode and ME (Management Engine) which will optimize the performance for Intel’s 12th Gen Alder Lake Desktop CPUs. There are also performance enhancements specific to the BIOS features so you can get better OC & other tweaking capabilities run better with the new BIOS compared to the older versions. One of the key updates is further optimization for DRAM compatibility and this will definitely help improve DDR5 support on MSI Z690 motherboards as there are several kits that still have issues running at their XMP profiles on the new motherboards.

MSI MAG Z690 TOMAHAWK WIFI – Pokde

MSI has clearly targeted a cleaner look with the MSI MAG Z690 Tomahawk WiFi, and I would say they largely succeeded. The darker color scheme and understated aesthetic reminds me of the MEG UNIFY series of motherboards, instead of the more striking design of the MAG Z590 Tomahawk WiFi. I definitely commend MSI for offering a premium look at a more value-oriented lineup.

MSI MPG Z690 CARBON WIFI – PC Gamer

The board continues the theme introduced by its Z590 Carbon predecessor. It reminds us of an ’80s spectrum analyzer, though we’re happy to see it’s been toned down to something much less garish this time around. It’s certainly a busy look, but not overwhelming. There are splashes of RGB consisting of the Carbon logo next to the SATA ports, plus a few spots in the central heatsink area (though they’re likely to be obscured by a GPU). Finally, MSI’s longtime dragon mascot is proudly lit up above the I/O area which also features a carbon fiber look, as the name of the board would suggest.

MSI MPG Z690 CARBON WIFI – Vortez

There is support for up to 6666 MHz which is astounding. Most boards do not reach this value, and while you may want to keep costs down by opting for a slower kit, the capabilities are there. Unlike other Z690 motherboards, CARBON WIFI also touts a whopping 5x PCI Express M.2 slots. 4x are PCI Express Gen4, while just one is PCI Express Gen3. On offer are two PCI Express 5 X16 slots – again, paving the way for possibilities later on down the track when this technology is fully adopted.
