The MSI Z370 GAMING PRO CARBON is a well-equipped board. Ready for exactly such a build as I’ve got here in this review, MSI really built this board to be the base of any high-end gaming rig; all the bells and whistles you really do need are here, including superb audio, bundled Wi-Fi connectivity (from Intel, of course), high RAM compatibility, a good VRM design, and, of course, RGB LEDs.

One item deserves its own five minutes of fame: A break-out PCIe card that houses the Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265 WiFi module and antenna headers. This solution occupies a lone PCIe x1 slot and a USB 2.0 header on the board. We’d recommend populating it in the bottom x1 slot. If you’re using SLI or three dual-slot PCIe cards, you’re forced to put the card into the bottom x16 slot, which is less than ideal.

MSI’s Gaming Pro Carbon lineup of motherboards are positioned to be the go-to motherboard for gamers and enthusiasts alike. If we ask people what makes a motherboard a gaming product we get a few answers depending on what gamers expect. MSI is using the transition to Z370 as an opportunity to freshen its mainstream boards’ styling cues. The Pro Carbon still takes after automotive themes, but I daresay it’s grown up a bit since our experience with its Z270 cousin. No, we’re not looking at real carbon fiber on this board’s I/O shroud, but the subtle patterning on these accents is pleasant-looking enough.
