MSI X299 XPOWER GAMING AC

MSI’s X299 XPOWER GAMING AC is one of MSI’s more recent X299 motherboards, and it features certain upgrades over the X299 Gaming M7 ACK and X299 Gaming Pro Carbon AC, including improved VRM cooling and many more features. For starters, the XPOWER line has always been targeted more towards enthusiast power users and overclockers rather than gamers, although the features do overlap.

MSI X299 GAMING PRO CARBON AC

The ‘Gaming Pro Carbon AC’ has become MSI’s defacto top-end motherboard in its main consumer line for the past couple of generations, mirrored with the XPower Gaming for overclockers. The slight change in MSI’s lineup over the last few years, from their trio of Gaming, MPower and XPower lines, to this, has been subtle – most noticeable due to the lack of an MPower if I’m brutally honest.

MSI X399 GAMING PRO CARBON AC

Maximising upon the CPU’s peripheral potential and building around that huge, 4,094-pin socket and eight DIMM slots requires solid research and development. MSI tips its hat into the ring with the Gaming Carbon Pro AC, priced at £325 or so. That may sound expensive on first glance, but it is considered to be at the lower end of the TR4 scale, so let’s see what you get.

MSI X299 TOMAHAWK ARCTIC

The X299 Tomahawk Arctic looks fabulous with its generous helping of white, from the PCB to the DIMM slots and I/O shroud. The contrast with the metal CPU socket and steel-clad DIMM slots and PCIe slots looks great, so if you’re after an icy clean look for your build then we can’t think of too many other options for Intel’s high-end desktop platform at the moment.
