MSI has produced some great-looking motherboards over the years, and while the X299 SLI Plus isn’t up there with the very best, it’s still an attractive piece of kit. The black-and-silver colour scheme will suit a wide range of builds, and the VRM and PCH heatsinks are outfitted with ‘Mystic Light’ illumination allowing for a choice of colours or effects.

MSI X299 GAMING PRO CARBON AC

The MSI X299 Gaming Pro Carbon AC is, like our comparison board, slightly too new and . . . evolving. We’ll continue to examine its performance as we visit other X299 products. However, we can say that the X299 Gaming Pro Carbon AC comes in at a more affordable price (so far) for this category, even if it’s lacking some of the higher end features.

MSI X299 GAMING PRO CARBON AC

We review the X299 Gaming Pro Carbon AC review from MSI. A motherboard with looks and many features on which to embark with that new Core X processor series. This motherboard is intended for Intel’s Skylake-X processors that will be released this summer based on Socket LGA2066, however, the motherboard also supports Kaby Lake-X procs in the form of the quad-core Core i7 7740K and Core i5 7640K.

MSI B350 TOMAHAWK

This is noticeably cheaper than the Asus ROG Strix B350-F Gaming and Gigabyte AB350-Gaming 3, but both of those boards had no issues with memory compatibility whatsoever, so it’s clear that with a need for a slight bump in memory voltage, the B350 Tomahawk is still maybe not quite as optimised.
