Today we take a look at ASUS’s new Flagship for the Intel X299 chipset, the Rampage VI Extreme Omega. You might have seen our review of the Rampage VI Extreme before, and we really liked the motherboard, where we awarded it the Editor’s Choice Award, something we do not give out lightly.

With the hugely powerful 18 core CPUs released from Intel even the Rampage VI Extreme could be made to be found wanting. The hardcore overclockers delidded them, produced a more exotic cooling solution than the thermal paste of Intel, and thus the demands skyrocketed beyond that which was expected by the designers.

Thankfully there weren’t too many issues, but once owners of Intel’s 18-core CPU began to delid it, pushing frequencies and power draw through the roof, even the likes of the Rampage VI Extreme weren’t equipped to deal with this kind scenario, at least not in a purely air-cooled environment.

The fact that Aorus is the gaming-precious brand of Gigabyte and is supposed to form something like the counterpart to Asus’ ROG in the end, everyone knows by now (almost) that. Then, of course, there is also the certain exclusivity or Luxury surcharge on it, but what’s the point, as long as the equivalent is right and the overall package remains plausible.
