ASRock Fatal1ty X399 Professional Gaming

The ASRock Fatal1ty X399 Professional Gaming motherboard (priced around $390) performs just as well as the company’s X399 Taichi, but has the added benefit of the 10Gb network controller. This board has some deficiencies from a gamer’s perspective, but would work well for a system that calls for 10Gb throughput and utilization of all the PCIe slots (something most boards can’t handle).

Gigabyte has included a total of three Ethernet ports, which consists of two Intel Gigabit and one Aquantia 10 Gigabit. To our mind 10Gbit is an expensive luxury for gamers however a number of our YouTube audience are absolutely in love with this feature. Nonetheless, we maintain that gamers will be perfectly well served by Gigabit while it is workstation users who will benefit from 10Gbit.

Speaking of cooling, keeping all these phases happy under heavy load are some of the beefiest heatsinks we’ve seen, with the pair surrounding the CPU socket connected via a heatpipe. They weigh plenty and are securely screwed in, but we actually prefer the stacked-fin cooling employed by, say, Gigabyte because it increases usable surface area over the flat, single-block heatsinks here.

GIGABYTE X399 AORUS XTREME

First impressions are that it’s an absolute beast in build; it makes an Asus X399 ROG Zenith Extreme feel lightweight. Part of the reason for the heft is a full-size base plate on the back. Is it strictly necessary? Nope, though chucking on everything is what this board is all about. That and Aorus claiming it can lower backside temperature by up to 10°C.
