The MSI Z370 Gaming Pro Carbon AC motherboard features a black PCB with carbon fibre overlay accenting it’s chipset heat sinks and rear panel cover. MSI also placed RGB LED-enabled components across the board’s surface and under the board for an interesting ground effects type look.

EVGA responds to these sentiments with an overclocking board that’s all business, if your business is gaming and/or overclocking. The biggest losses created by the Mini-ITX form factor appear to be the compact 4+2 phase voltage regulator and rear-placed M.2. Although the latter is merely a loss of convenience, the former could potentially hamper its ability to overclock our mighty Core i7-8700K CPU.

There are a lot of cool motherboards on the market too, but only a handful of Mini-ITX solutions. ASUS and their RoG branding are a big hit with gamers and system builders around the world, so when I heard they had a new Mini-ITX solution coming to market, I simply had to give it a test!

Asus uses the existing IX Hero as a base and improves upon it in a couple of obvious ways. The first is the specific, thick M.2 heatshield sandwiched between the primary PCIe x16 slot and CPU, and we prefer this to the southbridge-integrated heatsinks on cheaper Asus Z370 boards.

Every big name brand has some part to play, with an extreme motherboard that can unlock the full potential of your new CPU, GPU and other components. We review the lovely looking ASUS ROG Maximus X Apex motherboard. A € 349,- costing Z370 motherboard style for the high-end PC crowd. It has distinctive looks, PCB cutouts and some of the most spectacular looks thanks to a very sophisticated RGB LED system. The motherboard has been fitted with the kit, including a two Ethernet jacks, and drum-roll … one being fitted with an Aquantica AQC108 5G LAN jack (yay).
