Their new Z370 Mini-ITX motherboard offers dual M.2 slots, dual Gbit LAN, WIFI, and even special features such as HDMI 3.0. The motherboard also features a new color theme; full RGB LED support and even an M.2 heat sink. The motherboard is significantly different than what GIGABYTE has offered in the past, so let’s see if it can compete with larger ATX motherboards.

Intel’s latest iteration of its mainstream platform, Z370 and socket LGA1151-V2, provides a solid foundation for high-performance and compact systems. All of the major motherboard vendors offer mini-ITX options, though choice is limited in comparison to ATX and micro-ATX equivalents. Gigabyte’s sole mini-ITX option is the Z370N WiFi that we are looking at today.

It’s certainly well equipped for a mini-ITX motherboard, offering M.2 and Optane support for blazing fast storage devices. High-end audio comes courtesy of the ALC1220 chipset, there’s super fast WiFi, high-end power delivery hardware and RGB lighting. The list goes on, but spec for spec, it would be easy to think this was a full-size ATX motherboard.

The biggest losses created by the Mini-ITX form factor appear to be the compact 4+2 phase voltage regulator and rear-placed M.2. Although the latter is merely a loss of convenience, the former could potentially hamper its ability to overclock our mighty Core i7-8700K CPU.

There are several additional features that warrant the price hike but also mean that a successor to the awesome Gaming 5 is perhaps a little unlikely too. Thankfully, those features mean that while in name we’re looking at a successor to the Z270N-WiFi, the Z370N-WiFi is much more capable.

Of course, layout is key for such a small PCB. You may think that Gigabyte would take the existing Z270N WiFi, upgrade the circuity to meet 8th Generation Core standards, and be done with it. That’s not the case because the board has had a solid redesign.
